The Character Development and Living Skills program is a significant
component of Jacob’s Ladder that provides deep and lasting benefits. It
is imparted and monitored daily with a structured follow-through of check
lists, positive points, and incentives. Each day, Climbers are expected to
be responsible for his/her personal belongings, living space, laundry, and
‘know where you are supposed to be.’
A chart on each dorm door reveals proof of cooperation and rewards to
come at week’s end. It is difficult to say who exerted the most effort this
summer -- the RAs or the Climbers.
The leadership and dedication of the faculty was most significant. Unusual
classes, such as “The Origins of Right and Wrong” and “Gentlemen
Only”, presented opportunities for important questions and answers.
Climbers were especially supportive of one another this summer and
matured spiritually.
